How to Keep Floor Rugs From Creeping

Nothing is worse than rugs that creep and bunch up on the floor. They do not look good in the room and create a hazard for people entering and leaving the room. The rugs usually creep when they are placed upon slippery surfaces, but there are things you can do to prevent it from happening on any floor surface.

Materials Needed

  • Rug pad

  • Tape measure

  • Pencil

  • Carpet knife

  1. Purchase rug pads from stores such as Target or Home Depot. You can also purchase them at stores that sell carpets and rugs. There will be many types of materials to choose from. The pads also vary in thickness. Speak with a clerk at the store to help you decide which will work for you. The pads are great at keeping the rugs in place and adding more cushion under the rug.

  2. Measure the rug with a tape measure so you can cut the pad to size. Make sure you cut the pad so it is smaller than the rug. Trace the rug pad with a pencil so you can cut it with a carpet knife. Remove the rug from the area.

  3. Sweep the area well before placing the pad on the area. You want to make sure as much dirt as possible is removed from the area. Put the pad in the place you want to lay the rug. Place the rug over the pad and make sure it is centered.

  4. Spread the rug out to make sure there are no bunches and creases on top of it. You want to make sure it is flat.
