How to Use a Steam Cleaner
When the carpets in your home become old, stained or just plain dirty from every day traffic, they require cleaning so that they can look their best. One of the ways to clean the carpets in your home is by steam cleaning them. Steam cleaning is simple to do, has good results and does not require a professional to accomplish.
- Buy or rent a steam cleaner.
- Remove all the furniture from the rooms that you plan to clean.
- Vacuum the carpet with your everyday vacuum cleaner so that you remove any surface dirt or debris before using the steam cleaner.
- There are generally two containers on a steam cleaner; one for clean water and one for the dirty water. Remove the container for the clean water and fill it up with hot water. Add vinegar or carpet cleaning solution to the water if desired or simply use plain water only. If using cleaning solution, measure it out according to the product or your cleaner's instructions.
- Snap the water container back in place and slowly run the steam cleaner over your carpet. Move in straight lines back and forth depressing the trigger as instructed in the steam cleaners manual to wet the carpet.
- Repeat the motion until you've covered the entire carpet. Remove the container for the dirty water when it is full and empty it down your toilet as needed. Add more hot water, if necessary, to the clean container.
- Let the carpeting dry completely and then replace your furniture.
