How to Keep Jet Boats in the Water
Jet skis can be a lot of fun, and are a large part of what we envision when we think of the beach and water sports. However, they are not without their dangers, particularly if the rider cannot control the movement of the jet boat in and out of the water.
Directions:
- Make sure that the motor's jack plate is elevated as high as possible. This is done by using the steering station's control. Start by moving the boat slowly at first, creating low wake.
- As soon as the boat is moving, move the throttle forward as far as possible. Start the process of lowering the jack plate on the vehicle via the steering station control.
- Once the boat begins to move up in the water, be sure to keep the jack plate all the way down. The jet boat will rise quickly in the water, and will plane quickly, particularly in choppy water, so this is important.
- Control the boat's speed to prevent jerking. The trim tabs should be adjusted down, using the steering control. This will keep your boat traveling on an even keel, and prevent any sudden jerks in your direction.
- Try to control the course you are traveling so that you are meeting the incoming waves at a forty-five degree angles. Try not to take the waves on directly, but travel around the waves at forty-five degree angles. This will prevent any "jumping" action, which will elevate you out of the water and potentially cause dangerous spills.
