How to Knit a Half Round or Round Rug
For anyone who loves the feeling of making decorative items, a half-round or round rug is a great project. Using short-row knitting techniques, the rugs come together very quickly, easy enough to make multiple, so you can change your design on a whim.
- Cast on twenty (20) stitches.
- Knit stitches across row one and all odd numbered rows.
- Knit 19 stitches on row two. Leave the last row unstitched, turning your work and starting the new row.
- Knit 18 stitches on row four; turn your work and leave the last two stitches undone.
- Knit 17 stitches on row six, turn and leave last three stitches unworked.
- Knit 16 stitches on row eight, turn and leave last four stitches unworked.
- Knit 15 stitches on row ten, turn and leave last five stitches unworked.
- Knit 14 stitches on row twelve, turn and leave last six stitches unworked.
- Knit 13 stitches on row fourteen, turn and leave last seven stitches unworked.
- Knit 12 stitches on row sixteen, turn and leave last eight stitches unworked.
- Knit 11 stitches on row eighteen, turn and leave last nine stitches unworked.
- Knit 10 stitches on row twenty, turn and leave last ten stitches unworked.
- Bind off all stitches on row twenty-two to finish the wedge shape.
- Seam all the wedges together along the long edge, joining at the center point.
- Knit 5 total wedges for the half-round rug or 10 total wedges for the round rug.
- For a finished look, crochet an edging along the outside edge of the rug.
- Use a non-skid pad under your rug to avoid injuries.
