How to Locate Emergency Vet Hospitals

A pet can be just like a family member; when something happens to them, you want to make them well as quickly as possible. As many pets are prone to getting into accidents, whether it be eating something dangerous or running into oncoming traffic, it is important to know where vet hospitals are located near your home. Here are some easy ways to find emergency veterinarian hospitals near you.

  • Look in your local phonebook under "veterinarians." Many listings will indicate that they specialize in emergencies or after hour care.

  • Search online to locate hospitals near you. You can perform a Google map search for “emergency vet hospitals” near your area. Many of these listings will provide a phone number, address and website for your convenience. You can further use Google maps to provide directions for you, something you might need when you are in a panic over Fido. These listings also oftentimes offer reviews from people who have visited the vet hospital which may be helpful for you to find a hospital that fits your requirements.

  • Use the vetlocator.com website to perform an emergency pet hospital search. You can enter your zip code and preferred distance search to generate a list of veterinary hospitals that provide emergency care. Also helpful on the website is a list of emergency hotline numbers such as the Animal Poison Hotline and the ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center.

  • Ask your friends and family members who have pets. It is very likely that at some point they had to take one of their pets in for an emergency. They may be able to recommend a certain hospital or tell you to steer clear of another.

  • Ask your regular veterinarian. If you have a good rapport with him, he may even offer to see your pet after hours. If not, there is a high likelihood he can direct you to someone he trusts.
