How to Locate a DUI School
People who are convicted of driving under the influence are often ordered by a judge to attend a DUI school. DUI schools usually show films of accidents that were caused by drunk drivers and statistics that show how likely a drunk driver is to get in an accident.
- If you have a court order to attend a DUI school, check your court paperwork to see whether you were assigned a specific one. When a judge orders someone to go to DUI school, he sometimes names a particular school.
- Talk with your attorney to see whether he recommends certain DUI schools. Because attorneys are often involved with DUI cases, they may be familiar with the different types of schools available.
- Check with other people who have had a DUI to see whether they had to attend a school and which one they attended. You can also ask them a little about the school they attended to get an idea of what to expect.
- Visit the office of your county's Clerk of Courts. The clerk should be able to give you a list of DUI schools that are approved by the judge or state.
- Contact your state's Department of Motor Vehicles for information regarding available DUI schools. The Department of Motor Vehicles will sponsor or operate a DUI school in many states.
- Check with auto clubs or associations such as AAA or the Allstate Motor Club. These types of organizations often sponsor DUI schools that are approved by the court system.
