How to Look Up a Digital Television Guide

Digital television provides you with tons of options for television choices, such as music, news, weather, movies and more. In order to find what you want to watch, you must compare the options via a digital television guide. This can occur via your television, on your Internet or on your phone, depending upon your cable company. Each method may be a little different, but the general concept of accessing the guide remains the same.

  • Read the instructions provided by your cable company regarding setting up the equipment. If you do not set it up properly, you may not be able to access your digital television guide.

From your Remote

  1. Use your digital television remote. This should have been supplied by your cable company, hence should be the remote that came with your television.

  2. Point the remote control toward your digital box, and click on the "Guide" button. On most Comcast and Verizon remotes, it may be a blue button located closer to the top of your remote. This should grant you access to the guide. For some cable services, you might have to click the button twice to bring up the guide.

  3. Use the arrow buttons on the remote to scroll through the television programming. For Verizon customers, the channels are highlighted in different colors to represent which package they belong to. If you click on the "Info" or "Select" button, depending on your cable company, you can bring up information related to the show, such as the genre it belongs to, its rating and a description of the program.

  4. Choose to select a channel based on a genre, if you are just looking for a certain type of station or show.

  5. Use the number pad and the select button to go directly to a certain station.

Online

  1. Go to your cable provider's website. You have to create an account to access the guide online.

  2. Click on the option to view programming. This usually will be on the top or side of the screen.

  3. Enter your area code, if it asks for it.

  4. Scroll through your television programming options by time.
