How to Maintain a Solar Battery Bank
Solar energy is a green form of energy that can be used to power a wide variety of things. Maintaining solar power on days where there is a great deal of cloud cover or at night time is key to delivering solar power at a consistent level. That is why it is important to know how to maintain a solar battery bank.
Be sure that your solar array is properly matched to your solar bank size. If the solar battery bank is too large for your solar panel array, then the banks will never be able to have enough power stored in them.
Buy the best solar bank batteries that you can afford. This will cost more money at first, but will save you money in the long run. These batteries will last longer and will not have as much trouble retaining their charge. High capacity batteries are the best to buy.
Use a sealant to prevent corrosion. Carefully put the sealant on the terminals of your batteries. Do this before you put together your battery bank. Corrosion can damage batteries and reduce battery efficiency.
Keep the solar battery bank at its best working temperatures. This is usually between 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Excessive cold and heat can reduce battery storage. When it gets below 32 degrees, Fahrenheit a battery can lose 25-30 percent of its storage capacity.
Fully charge your solar battery bank about once a month. This will help prevent stronger batteries from having to overcompensate for weaker batteries.
Check the water level of your flooded batteries, if those are the kind of batteries that you are using. These water levels should be checked every six months.
