How to Make Books for Home Schooling
The process of making home schooling books for your children varies depending on the age of your child and the current curriculum you are teaching. Making your own home schooling books can save money and give you complete control over your child's education.
- Write down a list of subjects you wish to cover in future lesson plans with your child. You can plan ahead by the week, month or entire school year. If your state requires yearly testing, ensure that your books cover any topics that will come up on these tests.
- Decide whether you want to create a book with full-sized sheets or half sheets. You can bind full-sized sheets inside a three-ring binder. Half sheets can be cut or folded in half and stapled at the spine.
- Ensure you have enough ink and printer paper to create your own home schooling books. Purchase a fresh ream of paper and a new ink cartridge if you are making home school books for the first time.
- Use a word processing software to type lesson plans. Incorporate graphics as necessary. For unit studies, you may wish to include math, history and language lessons within one single book. If you are making a singular subject book, you may wish to include several lesson plans' worth of assignments.
- Print your document in normal 8 1/2-by-11-inch format for full-sized pages. This will be the default setting in your word processing software. Use a three-hole punch to punch holes in the side of the papers and bind them inside a three-ring binder.
- Adjust your printer settings to print half pages. If you are using Microsoft Word, open the "Print" menu and set the document to print on both sides of the page. Office users will find the "Brochure" setting under the "Page" tab in the "Print" Menu. Once your pages are printed, arrange them in order and staple them at the seam.
