How to Make Collage News Headlines

Headline collages may be used for many school and crafts products. They are also created as artwork by many hobbyists and artists. These collages can also commemorate a special day, event or time. They can be made using simple materials found in your desk or around your house.

Items Needed:

  • Collage base

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Shellac

  • Envelope or folder (optional)

  1. Choose a base for your collage. You can use a canvas or bulletin board for a large collage. If you are making a small collage, you may want to use a piece of cardstock or cardboard.

  2. Choose the headlines you wish to include in your collage. Cut each headline from the newspaper and trim it to the right size. If you are collecting headlines over a long time, save the cut ones in an envelope or folder to prevent them from getting bent or damaged.

  3. Arrange the headlines on the base. Do not glue them yet. Position them the way you want them. You may need to move them around several times to get them to fit and look right.

  4. Flip the headlines over, and apply a small amount of glue to the back of each one. Glue sticks work best, but any kind of glue can be used.

  5. Place the headline on the base and smooth it out. Move your finger from the center of the headline to the outer edges. This removes any bumps, creases or excess glue. Use a paper towel to remove the glue that squirts out during this step.

  6. Apply all the headlines to the base and allow them to dry overnight. Spray the collage with Shellac to protect it and make it last longer.
