How to Make Flowers for Cake Decor
If you are creative and like to cook, then cake decorating might be the right business for you. In addition to baking the cake, you will need to make flowers for decoration. This can be achieved with icing, gum paste or fondant. Using gum paste will make the flowers last longer and seem more realistic.
Things you will need:
- Different color gum paste
- Petal pattern
- Rolling pin
- Wire
- Large ball roller
- Foam board
- Water
- Luster dust
- Get your gum paste and your rolling pin. Begin to roll out the gum paste with your pin. You will need to make sure that you are able to see through the paste to know when it is finished being rolled.
- Pick up your petal pattern and trace the pattern onto the gum paste. You can also press the pattern into the gum paste. You can purchase stamps or stencils for your flowers at any craft store or a store online.
- Take your large ball roller and roll it around the edge of your pattern. You need to make sure half of it is on the foam board and the rest on the pedal that you have made previously.
- Turn your petal horizontally. This will create the center of your rose.
- Hold your wire and place one side of the petal on it and roll it around the wire. You will form a cone shape. Get your base of the petal and press it into the wire.
- Place some water in a bowl so you can adhere the petals with it. You will need to repeat the above steps for each new petal you add to your flower. With your third and fourth petal you will cover the crease made from the first two that were added.
- Use a leaf-embossed stamp for the green gum paste.
- Take your water and brush some on the leaf. You will then insert the wire of the flower into the center of the leaf. You will need to press hard to form the leaves design.
- Put luster dust on the edges of your flower. You will want to wait until it has completely dried before you do this step. Once all this is completed you will have your flower for the cake.
