How to Make Jewelry at Home

Making jewelry at home is a popular hobby for many. If you are interested in creating jewelry, your pieces can be for your personal use, as gifts to friends and family or to make a profit. Before you get started, you'll need to know what's necessary to make your jewelry.

  1. Take classes on how to make jewelry. Craft stores, community colleges and even some community centers may offer basic jewelry making classes. Alternatively, if you don't have the time for classes, rent or buy an instructional manual or DVD that can teach you the right jewelry making techniques.

  2. Purchase the tools that you need to make jewelry. Some of the items you might need are: clasps, necklace connectors, headpins, wires, beads, pliers, wire cutters and a storage container to help you keep your parts in order.

  3. Set up a location in your house that is your designated work space. If you have children, let them know that this space is for your jewelry and not for play.

  4. Make sketches of the jewelry designs that you have in mind. Use these drawings as guides when creating your jewelry pieces.
