How to Make Liquid Hand Soap
Liquid hand soap is very convenient and not as messy as bar soap can be sitting on a sink. Liquid hand soap can cost more, however, and making it yourself can save you money from purchasing liquid hand soap at the store. It is simple to do and can be done in a few short steps.
- Grate 6 ounces of your favorite unscented or scented bar soap. You can find a sale at a store for bar soap, and save even more money by purchasing it on sale. Sometimes, if you buy in bulk you can save even more money.
- Boil 4 cups of water in a pot on the stove. When the water starts boiling, add the bar soap that you grated to the water.
- Stir the mixture as it is boiling to dissolve the soap in the water. When it is completely dissolved, remove the pot from the stove. This should not take very long.
- Add approximately 6 drops of essential oil to the water mixture for fragrance. You can use any fragrance that you desire. Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil, and 1 tablespoon of glycerin to the mixture for added moisture to the soap. You do not have to add any fragrance to the soap if you do not want to. Mix all ingredients together.
- Pour the mixture into a pump soap dispenser. You can purchase these dispensers at the store, or use one that has already been used, as long as it has been washed out thoroughly. Let the soap cool down before you put the lid on it. Allow it to sit for approximately 4 hours before you use it.
