How to Make My Laptop Computer WiFi Ready
Most laptop computers these days already are Wi-Fi equipped when you purchase them, which allows you to connect to the Internet wirelessly. However, if your computer does not it is easy to add a wireless card to your laptop that will allow you to connect either at home or around town using hotspots provided by local businesses such as restaurants and coffee shops.
- Look in the control panel of your computer under wireless routers and devices to see if you have a wireless card installed in your computer. You should see the name of the specific make and model of the card that is installed in this list if there is a wireless card installed.
- If you have a wireless card installed, yet your wireless Internet is not working, you need to check to be sure that your settings are correct. You can do this by going into the device manager of your computer and clicking on devices. Find the wireless Internet device and be sure that it is enabled. If it is disabled you can easily enable it by un-checking the box that is currently checked.
- If your computer did not come with a wireless Internet card, you will need to have one installed in order to allow your laptop to be able to pick up wireless Internet signals from your home or other sources of signal.
- You can easily install an external wireless card. These external cards need to be inserted into a USB port, and then they will be automatically recognized by your computer.
- You will be prompted for the drivers for the device when installing your wireless card. When prompted for the drivers, all you need to do in insert the installation CD that came with your wireless card and then follow the onscreen installation instructions.
