How to Make Plastic Cord Cross Necklaces
Plastic cord cross necklaces are great craft activities for youth Sunday school classes, rainy day activity, summer camps or just to use at home because of the very easy instructions and minimal craft materials needed. Use a variety of colored pony beads like those in salvation bracelets for a witnessing tool or use a monochromatic scheme.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic craft cord
- 26 plastic craft pony beads
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Pull the ends of the cord together. String five pony beads on one side of the cord and four on the other side of the cord. Pull them to the bottom, making sure to keep the ends drawn up together. Line these two rows of beads up vertically. Tie the long ends closely together just above the two rows and spread one end to the left and one end to the right.
- Cut a long piece of plastic cord about 36 to 38 inches long. Put out two vertical rows of five pony beads each, two vertical rows of four pony beads each and five horizontal rows of 5 beads each.
- Take the left end of the cord and string it through four pony beads. Tug them to the middle knot right above the two vertical rows. Tuck the left strand back toward the right and thread four more pony beads on it. Create two horizontal rows of five beads each, creating the left arm of the cross. Make the right arm of the cross by threading five pony beads to the right strand. Tuck the strand back to the left and thread four more beads on it.
- Wrap the left strand down around the two horizontal rows of beads as close to the beginning knot as possible. Draw it straight back up. Wrap the right strand around the two right rows of beads and draw it straight up side by side to the left strand. String three pony beads down the left strand vertically. Thread the last four beads down the right strand. Line these above the two perpendicular rows straight with the base portion of the cross.
- Tie the two strands together in a knot as close to the beginning of the cross as possible. Grasp the edges of the necklace up around the neck. Put the cross where you want it to suspend and tie the ends of the necklace behind the neck in a double knot. Cut the extra cord.
