How to Make Professional Wedding Cakes
Weddings are one of the happiest days a couple experiences, but can also be one of the most stressful experiences as well. One way to help minimize the amount of stress you experience on your big day is to make your own wedding cake or have someone you trust make the cake.
- Make pieces of cardboard that are slightly smaller than the sizes of the pans you plan to use for each tier. Make sure that you cut the exact shape ahead of time so that all you have to do is put each tier into place when the time comes.
- Make the bottom layer of your wedding cake and apply the frosting over the entire layer. Place the cardboard piece onto the first layer and proceed with the rest of the cake. Make sure that the cardboard piece is centered so that it is not visible to any of the guests when you have the finished product.
- Push your dowel rods into the appropriate places on the first layer. This depends on the design you have chosen for your professional wedding cake. Make a line on the dowel where it meets to cake and take it out of the first layer.
- Cut the dowel at the mark and use as a template for the remaining dowels. Depending on the size of your professional wedding cake, you may need to cut between six and eight.
- Place the dowels on the first layer of cake, ensuring they are equally spaced from the next and in the shape of the cake.
- Repeat the process with the second layer of cake, making sure to cut the dowels for this layer as well. Depending on the number of layers you have, continue repeating until you have one layer on top of the next, each one smaller than the previous.
- Add the finishing touches to the wedding cake. This can be as detailed as possible, depending on the theme of the wedding.
