How to Make Your Own Maternity Pants
When you are pregnant and your body begins to grow you'll have a great need for maternity clothes, especially comfortable pants. Making your maternity pants is a cost friendly way to add to your wardrobe and create just the kind of pants you want.
Items Needed:
- Fabric
- Scissors
- Old pants (that fit you just before you became pregnant or a little larger)
- Pencil
- Pins
- 1-inch Wide Elastic (long enough to fit snuggly around your hips)
- Thread
- Needle
- Collect all the materials you'll need and set them out on a table.
- Lay the fabric across the table in a double layer with the back of the fabric facing outward on both sides. This makes the front and the back of your maternity pants.
- Trace around the pants using the pencil. Make sure to trace your line larger than the actual pants since your pregnant body is growing and will possibly be larger than your pre-pregnancy body.
- Remove the old pair of pants from the fabric.
- Pin the fabric 1 inch inside the traced line all around the pants. The two layers of fabric should be secured together when you are done.
- Cut the fabric on the traced line.
- Sew the fabric together at the outer sides of the pants using the needle and thread. You should sew 1/2 an inch from the rim of the fabric (on the outer side of the pins).
- Sew the insides of the pants where the crotch begins and down both legs using the needle and thread. You should sew 1/2 an inch from the outer rim of the pants.
- Place the elastic 1 and 1/4 inch below the top of the pants (the hip area).
- Sew the ends of the elastic together with the needle and thread.
- Fold the top of the pants over the elastic and sew it together with the fabric it touches.
- Remove all pins from the pants.
- Turn the pants inside out.
- You now have maternity pants!
