How to Make Your Own Patio Blinds
When you are on your patio having a good time, you may want some privacy or the sun may be shining to bright. A great idea is to create your own woven patio blinds. They will block the sun from shining so bright and hot, and give you privacy. Reed, cane, or bamboo blinds give a very natural look.
Things you will need to make your own patio blinds:
- Drill
- 4 eye screws
- Twine
- Scissors
- Rope
- 2 dowels
- Saw
- Shears
- Use a saw to cut a dowel rod to the preferred width of the blinds. Cut a pile of reed, cane, or bamboo to the exact same length. You can use a saw to cut cane and bamboo. Some shears will have to be used to cut the reed.
- Use a drill and create holes 1/3 of the distance in from each end of the dowel rod. Repeat on the other side of the dowel rod.
- Take some eye screws and screw them in the four holes.
- Take two pieces of twine and tie them to two of the eye screws. Be sure to cut the pieces of twine so they are 12 inches longer than the blinds.
- Put the first piece of bamboo, reed, or cane between twine lengths. Make a knot in the twine to hold in place. Keep adding pieces with knots until you have the desired length.
- Use a drill to make hole 1/3 of the distance in from each end of another dowel. When you add the last piece of material, thread the twine in the holes and make a knot on the other side to secure the dowel at the bottom.
- Get a rope and cut two pieces. Cut a piece equal in length to the blinds multiplied by three. Cut a second piece that will be three times the length of the blinds along with the width.
- Take the ends of the rope and tie to the top eye screws. Be sure to bring them down one side of the blinds and up onto the other side.
- Thread the rope into the bottom eye screws bringing the longest rope through the other bottom eye screw, where the shorter rope is located. The two ropes at this point will be hanging together. Tie the ends of the rope together and create a knot.
