How to Make a Bridle Rack
Owning horses can be quite expensive when it comes to feeding and equipment. Many owners are looking to cut costs whenever possible, and making a homemade bridle rack to store bridles, halters and lead ropes is one way to save money as opposed to buying them at expensive shops.
Materials needed:
- Saw the pieces of oakwood for the rack. Once the size of the rack has been determined, there needs to be six pieces for each panel being built.
- Drill holes in each of the sides. Four 1/8 inch holes need to be drilled in the front, side and back pieces.
- Connect the panels. Start with the front and back panels and connect with keg screws. You will need to screw the two side panels together. Once all pieces are connected, sand the oakwood down.
- Drill holes in the slats. Make four 1/2 inch holes in the slats and space 2 inches apart. Sand the slats down prior to connecting to the sides.
- Line up the slats with the side panel pieces. Apply a thin amount of wood glue to the plugs and hammer them into the side panel pieces. Continue this process for the remaining pieces.
- Finish sanding the bridle rack. Make sure to brush the excess sawdust from the rack.
- Choose a finishing stain for the rack. Apply at least three coats of the stain to the rack. Let it dry for the specified time on the instructions.
