How to Make a Drag Racing Car Lighter

Making your drag racing car lighter will help you gain speed so that you can truly take advantage of the horsepower the car has. There are a few different factors that can be adjusted when attempting to make the car lighter, each of which contributes to a more efficient ride.

  • Remove all of the unnecessary equipment from the vehicle. If the equipment does not contribute to the functioning of the car, it does not need to be inside of the car. An example of an unnecessary piece of equipment that needs to be removed is an audio system, including the speakers and actual disc player. This can remove a significant amount of weight. Other items that are unnecessary for this type of car include an air conditioning system and even the dashboard inside the car.

  • Clear out the trunk of the vehicle. This includes any toolboxes you may have, as well as other types of personal objects that weigh down a vehicle. As long as you perform an inspection before the actual race, you can even remove your spare tire from the trunk for added speed.

  • Replace the stock panels of your vehicle. If you use replacements that are made out of aluminum, this will make your vehicle much lighter. If you cannot locate that material, consider using carbon fiber panels.

  • Invest the money to obtaining a new engine block. The replacement should be made out of aluminum and although it is rather expensive, it is well worth the investment when trying to make your car lighter.
