How to Make a Fiberglass Dog Pen

Containing your dog can be a difficult task regardless of how large it is. Dogs have a desire to roam around large areas, but it can become a problem when they decide to mark their territory in your home. In order to prevent further damage to your home, you may need to build a dog pen to keep your dog. Fiberglass is a great material for a dog pen due to its strength.

• Determine the size of your dog. You need to know how big your dog is because you want to give them enough room to move around. The smallest dogs will be able to be contained by a 2-foot pen, but you will need something quite larger for dogs, such as a Golden Retriever. A common rule is to make the pen twice the height of your dog.


• Measure a mark your piece of fiberglass to the exact measurements you want your dog pen to be. You will want to mark your board at intervals of twice the height of your dog so you know where you are gong to cut. This process may seem simple but it will save you the time that would be required if you messed up and had to re-cut your fiberglass.


• Cut your fiberglass panels according your measurements. For a small dog, each of your panels will be 4 feet wide, but if you have a larger dog, then your panels will need to be larger. Drill a hole through both of your panels 3 inches from the top and 3 inches from the bottom. You will then install spring links into the holes and tighten the threads.


• Form a square with your panels and place your dog inside. When you want to put the pen away, you just need to unscrew the panels that are linked and stack them.
