How to Make a Fishing Net for Kids
Fishing is a great family fun activity. Younger children can have fun catching real fish by making some minor adjustments for size and safety. There are various ways to make fishing nets for kids. Mesh is an ideal material and can be made into a pouch and hung onto a wire circle. Fabric can be cut and attached to a wire circle and wooden dowel. Old sports rackets can be remade into fishing nets.
- Determine the age and strength of the child. The type of fishing net you craft will depend on these factors. Consider what type of fish your kid will want to catch.
- Browse the Internet for ideas on kid’s fishing nets. There are some articles and tutorials that show how to craft several types of nets.
- Gather up materials that you have lying around the house. An old badminton, tennis or racquetball racket can be made into a child sized fishing net. Cut out the inside material and line the racket with mesh, panty hose or another fabric that is porous. Attach by using twist ties or other methods such as strong waterproof tape.
- Purchase some different fabrics for your kid’s nets. Mesh of different grades works well. To make a net out of material you will need some wire, and something to hang it from such as a wooden dowel.
- Make a fishing net by folding fabric back in forth into three layers. Cut slits into the fabric down the length of the strip. Do not cut all the way to the edge. Do the same on the other side. How far apart you make your cuts will determine the size of the hole.
- Hem the fabric leaving a space for your wire. Place your wire into a circle and slide into the hem. Stitch or tape with waterproof tape such as duct tape. You can cut fabric into a circle or make pouches. Use Velcro tabs to attach to the wire. Attach to your dowel rod.
