How to Make a Funeral Casket Spray
A funeral casket spray is an arrangement of flowers that adorns the casket of a loved one at their funeral. A beautiful arrangement can add a measure of solitude and remembrance to the event. Specific flowers are typically selected that speak to the individual tastes of the deceased, the time of year during which the death took place, or the tastes of the surviving family members.
Contrary to popular belief, a proper casket spray is not particularly intricate, it is simply a specific methodology for placing the flowers around the casket.
Items You Will Need:
- Casket saddle
- Floral foam
- Floral greenery
- Floral tape
- Floral wire
- Pair of sharp scissors
- Long-stemmed flowers
- Utility knife
- Trim the floral foam in such a way that it will fit inside the casket saddle. The ideal fit will ensure that the flower arrangement will not slide or wobble. Once the appropriate positioning is achieved, tape the foam in place.
- Position a layer of long-stemmed floral greenery along the bottom edge of the already positioned foam. Ideally, the greens are to be similar in length, though they can arc out somewhat to the sides. The goal is that the greenery will form a base for your first layer of flowers.
- Add a layer of long-stemmed flowers over the positioned greenery. It may be necessary to trim the stems for aesthetic purposes of your arrangement. Have your scissors ready to do this as needed.
- Form a mounded shape to your arrangement by utilizing an upward motion. In order to achieve greater stability and a fuller overall look, wire the flower stems together. It is helpful while constructing the arrangement to take a step back and get an overall look. This will be the view of mourners as they approach the casket.
- Add a personalized banner if desired. This can be tucked into the arrangement using floral wire. A bow or ribbon can be added in the same manner.
- Add water to the foam. This will help maintain a crisp, fresh look for the floral arrangement.
