How to Make a Natural Healing Lip Balm

All natural ingredients are great for making lip balm. With the proper ingredients, you can make lip balm that will nourish your lips without harsh chemicals, and you can prepare it right in your own kitchen. Here's how to do it:

Supplies

  • Beeswax

  • Almond oil

  • Vitamin E capsule

  • Essential Oil flavoring

  • Honey

  • Small bowl

  • Pan

  • Spoon

  • Small pillbox tins

  • Red henna (optional)

  • Cheese grater

  1. Fill your pan with water and heat until boiling.

  2. In a bowl, combine two tablespoons of grated beeswax and three tablespoons of the almond oil. Grate the beeswax with the cheese grater and make sure the bowl you use will sit securely on top of the pan of boiling water.

  3. Place the bowl over the boiling water and allow the ingredients to melt. When melted, remove the bowl from the top of the pan and add ingredients.

  4. Mix in one to two drops of flavoring, 1/2 teaspoon of honey and a vitamin E capsule. If you want to give your lip balm color, 1/2 teaspoon of red henna can be added.  Peppermint, cherry, strawberry and orange flavoring are popular choices when making lip balm.

  5. Set the bowl back on the pan of water and allow all the ingredients to melt and blend well together. Stir frequently.

  6. Pour the liquid into the small pillbox tins. Allow the lip balm to cool and solidify.  This should take about two hours. The tins can also be placed into the refrigerator to cut down on the processing time.
