How to Use Natural Cures for Shingles

Herpes zoster virus, better known as shingles, is a very painful and uncomfortable condition. First a burning sensation manifests on your skin, followed by a rash and finally blisters start to form. Prescription drugs for shingles can be quite costly, but with the help of some natural cures those drugs may not be necessary.

  1. Use a cotton ball soaked in vinegar to dab on the infected area. Doing this will stop the pain from the shingles in a matter of minutes. By continuing to apply vinegar to the infected area a couple times a day the shingles should gradually disappear.

  2. Drink two tablespoons of vinegar twice daily. Drinking vinegar is thought to be a natural cure for shingles by working to fight them from the inside out. By adding the vinegar to a flavored beverage, you can help mask the unpleasant taste.

  3. Spread honey across one side of a bandage large enough to fit over the infected area. Place the bandage onto the infected area. Replace the bandage one or two times a day until the shingles have disappeared. Use organic honey for the best results. Regular honey will act as a natural cure as well, but after being heat treated some of the healing properties are gone.

  4. Place virgin coconut oil onto a bandage the same way as you would with honey. As with honey, place the bandage onto the infected area and replace it one to two times a day until the shingles are gone. With an anti-viral, the virgin coconut oil works well as a natural cure for shingles.

  5. Go to a doctor to have medication prescribed. If the natural cures for shingles aren't working, seek medical attention as the condition is very contagious and needs treatment.
