How to Make a Simple Circuit With D Batteries
Building a simple circuit can be a fun afternoon science experiment. This is a project that you can safely complete in your own home in order to demonstrate to your children how electricity works. You will need a few household items in order to build your simple circuit.
Things You Will Need:
- D cell battery
- Mini lamp or light bulb
- Two 5-inch lengths of copper wire
- Battery holder (optional)
- Tape (duct tape or painters tape works best)
- Wrap one end of a piece of wire securely around the base of a 1.5 volt flashlight bulb or mini lamp if you have one available. Ensure that the wire is firmly in contact with the base of the bulb or lamp. If necessary, use a piece of tape to hold the wire in place.
- Attach the other end of the wire to the positive end of your D cell battery. If you have a battery holder available, you can use the holder to secure the wires in place. If you do not have a battery holder, secure the wire to the positive end of the battery by using a piece of tape.
- Attach one end of the second piece of wire to the base of the mini lamp or light bulb. Wrap the wire around the base securely and ensure that the wire makes contact with the metal on the base. If necessary, secure the wire in place with a piece of tape.
- Attach the other end of the opposite wire to the negative end of your D cell battery using either a battery holder or a piece of tape.
- Your circuit is now complete. The light bulb or mini lamp should light up.
