How to Make a Tie for Men's Hats

Hats have recently started to regain the popularity they once had. If you have an old hat in your closet and is looking for a way to enhance its appearance you should consider putting a tie on it to update the look.

Making a tie to go on your hat is something you can easily do yourself in a matter of minutes by following a few simple instructions. A tie is a strand of ribbon that is placed around the hat between the brim and the crown.

  1. Take the ribbon you are going to use and wrap it around the crown of the hat to measure how much ribbon you are going to need. This should be done where the crown and the brim meets.

  2. Add an additional 5-inches to the measurement you took.

  3. Use a pair of scissors and cut the ribbon at an angle. Cutting it at an angle will prevent the edges of the ribbon from fraying.

  4. Plug in a hot glue gun and insert a glue stick into the chamber.

  5. Allow the glue to heat up.

  6. Apply a bead of glue around the hat between the crown and the brim.

  7. Lay the ribbon down on top of the hot glue.

  8. Turn the ribbon back to form a loop when you complete the circle.

  9. Place the end of the ribbon behind the loop you just made.

  10. Place a dab of hot glue behind the loop and hold it down to secure in place.

  11. Add any other accents you wish to add to the hat and secure with the hot glue.
