How to Measure Formal Gowns
If you are getting married, measuring your formal wedding gown is crucial because sizes differ greatly from one designer to the next. For instance, you may be a size 10, but that doesn't mean that every wedding gown in size 10 will fit properly. Therefore, your measurements are crucial to making sure your gown fits so that you look like a swan.
- Do not attempt to take your own
measurements, there is simply no way you can properly
measure yourself accurately. Therefore, make an appointment with a
dressmaker or a seamstress so that they can professionally take your
correct measurements. - Make sure the day of your
measuring that you wear high heels about the same height as you plan
to wear on the day of your wedding. In addition, it would help to
wear the bra you will wear under your wedding dress. Therefore,
purchase the bra you will wear for the wedding before your measuring
and wear it when being measured. - You should relax your arms so that
they rest at your sides. The seamstress will use a measuring tape to
measure around your back and then measure to the center of your
breasts. This to properly get an accurate bust measurement. - Next, your seamstress or
dressmaker will take the measuring tape and measure the tiniest part
of your waist, which is above your belly button by about an inch. - Stand straight with both feet
together. You will be measured for your shoulder width and the
widest part of your hips. - Measuring the hem of your dress is
done by taking the measuring tape from the very base of the neck all
the way down to where the hem of the dress should be. Lastly, your
arms will be measured depending on the length of the sleeves you
plan to wear. Once you have accurate measurements of your body, you
can then choose your wedding dress with confidence.
