How to Measure Golf Swing Speed

You may want to measure your golf swing speed if you want to improve your game. A typical professional swing ranges from about 115 to 120 mph. If you were just starting out a general goal to aim for your swing speed would be 80 to 85 mph range. There are several different ways to measure your golf swing speed.

  1. Get fitted properly for your golf clubs. Visit your local PGA profession and have them help you get fitted. They will take your body measurements, and give you a variety of golf clubs to hit, and put you on a launch monitor and swing speed. You may have a fee for this service if you have already purchased golf clubs.

  2. Take a golf lesson to help you with your golf swing. Contact your local PGA and ask them about booking a golf lesson.  They will be able to measure your swing speed with a launch monitor, and possible help you out with other problems you may have in your game. Lessons are usually charged per half hour and can sometimes be up to $35 per half hour.

  3. Use a Swing Speed clip to help estimate your golf swing speed. This is a mechanical device that registers based upon the force generated out with your swing toward the club head. There are some manufactures that make a clip that you can attach you to your club around the head. This clip can give you a general range of your swing that you might fall into.

  4. Try out a big variety of golf clubs at your local pro shop or driving range.  Trying a lot of different clubs is one of the most effective ways to determine clubs you should be playing with. When you play with the right clubs that work for you, your speed will be better.
