How to Mix Automotive Paint in a Mixing Cup
Materials Needed
- Automotive paint
- Hardener
- Mixing cup
- Paint stirrer
- Paint gun
- Make sure you read any manufacturer’s instructions on the can of paint. You will find that some paint will need a base coat and hardener. The can of paint will offer the proper rations that should be used as well as other useful tips.
- Look on the side of the mixing cup, which can be purchased at your local auto supply store. There should be a chart on the side that contains the ratios to mix the paint. The numbers on the mixing cup are the lines that you will fill the cup up to.
- Decide how much paint you will need by reading the can of paint and pour it into the mixing cup. For example, adding paint to the line with a one will be a ratio of four to one. So fill the paint up to the one and pour in the hardener until you reach the four to get a four to one ratio.
- Take a paint stirrer and blend the ingredients completely in the cup. You will have to blend the ingredients for up to five minutes to make sure the paint is mixed. This will ensure the paint looks good once it is applied to the auto. Once the paint is mixed, add it to a spray gun for the best application.
