How to Mount Digital Prints
Nothing personalizes a home more than pictures. Digital technology has made it easy for even the novice photographers to take great photos. You can now even print them yourself or have them printed commercially in a variety of sizes. Once you take great pictures use these few steps to mount and hang your prints for a really great personal touch.
- Invest in quality photo paper if you are going to print your digital photos on your own. Avoid glossy finishes since the ink fades quicker on these types of paper than on others. Ask for an artist-quality paper at your local supply store. Once printed make sure you allow adequate time for your prints to dry prior to mounting them.
- Print your digital photos through a commercial outlet. If you choose not to self-print, there are a variety of options available in the community or online. Many places such as Walmart will allow you to upload your photos from home and pick them up once you get there. Many of the printing locations have kiosks that will allow you to crop, reduce red-eye, or make other editing changes.
- Spray the white side of your dry print with a photo mounting spray adhesive and adhere your print to your mounting board.
- Smooth out any air bubbles that may be trapped between the print and the mounting board. Using a straight cardboard edge or a ruler, start in the center of your print, press down making sure that you work from edge to edge. Apply pressure to all four of your corners to make sure that your corners are adhered tightly. Try to avoid getting fingerprints on your photo.
- Choose the frame that you will be using to hang your picture. Take your print with you so that you can see which type and color of frame will best showcase your work. Decide whether you will use one with glass or without glass.
- Consider customizing your print with matting. Put together the finished product and hang from your wall.
