How to Operate Municipal Golf Courses

Operating a public golf course will involve a lot of work from many people. If you have the time and resources, you could make a lot of money from golf courses. Many people of all ages will enjoy golfing at your course if it's operated well.

  1. Develop a very detailed budget plan. You need to have a limit on how much you're willing to spend on expenses for the year. Consult with your financial team about how much money you currently have and how much you can expect to make. This process could take a while, but it's very crucial to the courses success.

  2. Upgrade your facilities before you open for the season. Your upgrading expenses should have been included in your budget. A lot of businesses depreciate expenses over several years to help pay for them and have a balanced budget. Some repairs like lawn maintenance won't be able to be made until right before you open, but you can still work on many other projects during the winter.

  3. Advertise your course to develop interest for the season. You'll have regular customers, but you should always be trying to recruit new members.

  4. Design an organized schedule on how tee times will operate. The goal is to have as many people golfing at one time as possible. Most golf courses open very early and stay open as long as the sun is up.

  5. Hire quality workers for both full time employment and seasonal help. Try finding employees who like golf and also have experience working at golf courses. Train employees on how to work efficiently and make sure they understand their importance in the overall success of the course.
