How to Operate a Bissell PowerSteamer

Bissel has many power carpet cleaners to restore your carpets. You can purchase or rent a  Bissell PowerCleaner to make your carpets look brand new.  Save some money and forget hiring an expensive carpet cleaning crew. Follow these steps to get your carpets looking brand new!

  1. Remove the furniture. Remove all the furniture from the room that you are going to clean. If an item like a china cabinet is to big to move, tape plastic or wax paper around the base of the furniture so the cleaning solution does not damage the wood.

  2. Vacuum the carpet.  Before you start the process, empty the vacuum canister and thoroughly vacuum the carpet. Vacuum the room from north to south. Then vacuum the room from east to west. The two step process will remove any loose dirt from the carpet.

  3. Pre-treat the carpet. High traffic areas need a little additional attention.  Spray high traffic areas with a pre-treatment carpet cleaner.  Use paper towels to blot up any excess solution. Use a sponge with a scrubbing edge to work the pre-treatment cleaner into the carpet.

  4. Fill the water reservoir. Place the handle flat on the floor. To remove the reservoir grab hold of the handles and pull up. Remove the lid and fill the reservoir with warm water. Put the cover back on the reservoir and place the water reservoir back on the carpet cleaner. Make sure the reservoir locks into place.

  5. Fill the cleaning reservoir. Fill the cleaning reservoir with 4 capfuls of the cleaning solution.  Add water to the fill line. Place the cleaning reservoir back on the carpet cleaner.

  6. Check the settings. Check the settings at the base of the Bissell PowerSteamer. Select the best setting for the type of carpet you are going to clean.

  7. Start cleaning the carpet. Press the solution trigger and make one full forward and backward pass on the carpet. Keep pressing the solution trigger all the way through the forward and backward pass.  If you release the solution trigger at the end of the forward pass, the carpets will not be very clean.

  8. Repeat the process. Now make one forward and backward pass across the carpet. This time do not press the solution trigger. The forward and backward pass will allow the suction from the cleaner to remove the water and cleaning solution. Repeat this two-step process to thoroughly clean your carpet.

  9. Complete the cleaning process. Unplug and empty both the water reservoir and the cleaning reservoir. Take a few floor fans and turn the on high directing the air flow towards the carpet. Open all the windows to help dry the carpet.
