How to Paint a Beach Landscape

Some people feel that you have to be a professional painter in order to make a beautiful beach landscape painting. However, anyone can paint with a few small steps. Use a variety of colors to make a beautiful work of art.

Things You'll Need:

  • Penciled beach sketch

  • Brushes

  • Aureolin

  • Cadmium red

  • Cobalt blue

  • Viridian

  • Cadmium orange

  • Sap green

  • Silvery purple

  • Yellow

  1. Use a moderately featured but gently penciled sketch.

  2. Make a deep blue sky color. Blend more than you would need in a cup; then apply it immediately with a huge brush. Use a tinier brush to tug in color surrounding the topic of your painting.

  3. Paint in the sand. Use aureolin and cadmium red light, do not blend completely. Do it immediately even as it is wet, slant the paint to create the color so it  flows across it like sand sweeps the beach.

  4. Blend cobalt blue and viridian together to make the ocean. Paint a clear light line between the sky and sand; but make sure the sand and sky are dry before you do it. Make white tiny bits that will give the effect of sparkling water. Paint deep lines of bluish-green on the upper part of the ocean to give the effect of deep water in the distance.

  5. Continue to blend the different greens to make the foliage.  Use sap green, viridian and a little cadmium orange. Also, you can try viridian or sap green with aureolin. You should be creative; however, limit combinations to three or less colors.

  6. Use a variety of reds, oranges and yellows. Paint a croton plant on the left of the beach house. Croton is a gorgeous plant that has hundreds of types and grows everywhere in the Caribbean. Use a little purple to wash up the trunk of the palm tree.

  7. Mix a silvery purple for the shadows to indicate the design on this small beach cottage. Keep on painting foliage and other small specifics.
