How to Paint a Wall Wash Solution
Painting a wall wash solution on your interior walls is a simple task and easy to learn. There is a trick to it, though, to prevent streaking while drying. The length of your strokes and working a small area at a time are the keys to a nice finish with no streaks.
Things You'll Need
- mop with a flat bottom
- clean cotton rags
- washing solution
- bucket
- drop cloth made of plastic
- Place your plastic drop cloth over the floor and any furniture that is in your working area. Take down any pictures, shelves or wall decorations that are hanging where you plan on washing your wall.
- Begin by mixing your washing solution in a bucket. The ratio of water to soap depends on what kind of cleaning product you are using. Refer to the manufacturer's mixing directions. Any mild cleansing soap can be used on your walls. If in doubt, wash a small area first and allow to dry before washing your entire wall.
- Start in a top corner of your wall. Place your mop into the washing solution and wring it out so it is not dripping.
- Using short strokes, bring your mop down the wall. Wash the wall in three foot sections to prevent dripping and streaking. After taking the first stroke, go back to the top of the wall and wash the next strip in your three foot area. Always start at the top and work your way down the wall. Repeat this until the entire three foot area has been washed.
- Wring out your mop and place a clean, dry rag on it. Using the same stroke method, go over the part you just washed to dry it.
- Continue to the next three foot section. Wash and dry this area as you did before. Make sure to check your rags often and replace them when they become slightly dirty. Check your washing solution, too. When it becomes a little cloudy, dump it and make a new cleaning solution.
- Wash and dry one entire wall before moving on to the next wall.
