  • Paintbrush

  • Latex satin or semi gloss enamel paint

  • Paint stirrer

  1. Fill a bucket halfway with warm water and add a few drops of mild liquid dish detergent. Dip a soft cloth into the cleaning solution and swish it around. Use the cloth and cleaning solution to thoroughly clean the countertop.  Rinse the countertop with clean water. Dry the counter with a soft cloth. Allow the counter to completely dry.

  2. Use 150 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the entire area. Use a damp cloth to remove particles left from sanding.

  3. Apply acrylic primer over the entire counter with a paintbrush. The primer should be 100 percent acrylic. Allow the primer to dry for the recommended time on the package. Apply a second coat of primer and allow it to dry.

  4. Open a can of latex satin or semi gloss enamel paint and stir it with a paint stirrer. Use a clean paintbrush to apply a coat of paint. Allow the first coat of paint to dry. Apply a second and third coat of paint but allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat.

  5. Inspect the countertop to make sure it turned out the way you wanted it. If you do not like the results, you can repeat Steps 2-4 to achieve the desired results.
