How to Paint Bathroom Cabinets
Over time bathroom cabinets, like other cabinets, become worn and diminish the overall look of your bathroom. To keep your bathroom cabinets up-to-date and aesthetically pleasing consider painting them a fresh new color. This new color opens the room up to several new decorating options.
Items:
- Paint
- Primer
- Screwdriver
- Paint brushes
- Low grit sandpaper
- Clean out the bathroom cabinets. Place everything found in your bathroom cabinets into storage bins.
- Vacuum out all dust and debris out of the bathroom cabinets.
- Remove the bathroom cabinet doors by unscrewing the screws holding the hinges in place with the screwdriver. Begin with the bottom hinges first.
- Sand down the surface of the bathroom cabinets using the low grit sandpaper. Continue sanding until the overall surface is smooth.
- Scrub the bathroom cabinet doors and the entire surface of the cabinet casing with a cleanser appropriate for the material in which the bathroom cabinets are constructed. For instance, if the cabinets are wood use a wood cleanser like Murphy's Oil Soap. Allow the bathroom cabinets to dry completely.
- Apply primer to bathroom cabinet casing. Begin with the inside walls and shelves then work from the top of the casing to the bottom.
- Remove the doorknobs from the bathroom cabinet doors. Apply primer to the bathroom cabinet doors. Allow the primer to dry for at least 24 hours.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the paint application onto the bathroom cabinet casing and the bathroom cabinet doors.
- Add a second coat of paint to the bathroom cabinet casing and the bathroom cabinet doors. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours.
- Tighten the doorknobs back onto the bathroom cabinet doors.
- Reinstall the bathroom cabinet doors.
- Place all items you stored in the storage bins back into the cabinets.
