How to Pay Child Support Online

As more and more people move to the Internet as a way to pay bills many states have set up websites that will accept child support payments. This takes a lot of the hassle out of making sure your child is supported as ordered by the courts.

All states have agencies set up to collect child support payments. If you miss a payment you may find your paychecks garnished, or worse, face jail time or suspension of your driver’s license. If you aren't able to make it to the agency on time because of a hectic schedule you may be able to make the payments online instead.

  1. Find the website for the child support enforcement agency in your area. If you aren't sure where to find this you can call the local government office that deals with this. The numbers can be found in the blue pages of a phone book or online.

  2. Look over the site to see if you need to set up an account. Even if you aren't required to it will be a good idea. This will allow you to easily log in anytime in the future to make payments.

  3. Choose the option you want to use to make a payment. Most of the child support websites will allow you to pay with a credit or debit card.

  4. Decide if you want to set up recurring payments if that's an option. This option will deduct the payments automatically from the same card each month on the same day. It ensures that you'll never miss a payment.

  5. Read through the terms and conditions before you submit the payment. You'll need to check a box signaling that you read through them. You may be charged a fee to make the payment this way, and it will be outlined in the terms.

  6. Submit the payment and wait for your confirmation. Keep a record of the confirmation so there is no question that the payment was made.
