How to Plant Daylilies
Daylilies are flowers known as perennials. They are easy to plant and can handle most types of weather conditions. They are perfect for beginning gardeners because they handle little gardening errors. They are very easy to take care of and they return each year so they make the perfect addition to any landscape.
- Plant these types of flowers in the sunlight for the best nutrition. They can be in areas that are partly shade but do best in the sun for about six hours per day.
- Using any variety of soil is fine since daylilies do well with most soils. You can pretty much use anything from sand to heavy clay.
- Plant daylilies in soil that is well drained. If you live in a hot area, you need to plant your flowers in the spring and fall.
- Planted flowers from the spring will bloom after any dangers of frost have passed. Flowers planted in the fall will appear a few weeks before the freezing weather comes.
- Prepare the ground in advance including adding compost to the planting area. An important thing to note is that there are various sizes of daylilies available so the spacing will depend on the size of the daylilies purchased. But as a general rule, small daylilies are spaced 16” to 24” apart, larger flowers are spaced 18” to 30” apart and if you have a closed bed, you want to spread them 12” to 18” apart.
- Planting and maintenance are simple with daylilies. They are easy to care for as well.
