How to Print Pictures and Artwork on a Canvas
Turning your digital photos into framed works of art on canvas is easier than you think. These digital masterpieces don't require the use of brushes and paints in the traditional sense. Instead, they are produced with the modern technology of an inkjet printer and some imagination.
Supplies:
- Computer printer
- Canvas paper
- Online photo service account
This can be accomplished in one of two methods. You can purchase your supplies and print them at home, or you can select a photo printing service to handle the job.
Printing it Yourself at Home
- Purchase some canvas paper. This can usually be from a local art supply house. It is important when picking your canvas to get several extra pieces, since it may take a couple of tries at experimenting with your printer to get your project perfect.
- Load your canvas into the paper tray of your printer. Make sure the correct side is loaded for printing, since canvas paper has a correct side for printing.
- Set the printer to print a demo page so not to waste ink. Print the demo copy. This will check the compatibility of the paper with the printer.
- Open the photo, which is to be printed in your printer software.
- Adjust the settings on the printer option tab to reflect the heaviest paper setting and the best ink quality.
- Save and exit the settings.
- Hit the print button. Watch the printer's uptake of your canvas. Make sure it is pulling it straight from the tray. Heavy paper can become bound in the printer wheels and print improperly as a result.
- When processed through the printer allow the canvas print to dry for at least two hours before handling it. By this time, it should be thoroughly dried.
- Stretch the canvas over a wood frame to finish.
Online Printing Service
- Select an online printing service which offers canvas printing as an option.
- Select your canvas print size and upload your photo to the server for completion.
- The finished canvas print will be shipped directly to your home upon completion by the service.
- Stretch over a frame to finish.
