How to Promote a Music Festival

If you are in charge of a music festival, then you know the key to success is informing people so they will attend.  Getting the word out is sometimes a difficult and time-consuming process.  Knowing how to promote the festival is half the battle.

  • Create fliers that have information about the music festival.  You should include the name of the bands, any sponsor of the activity, the date and time of the festival and where the festival will be.  Ask local businesses if you can hang a flier at their shop.  You can also put fliers on community bulletin boards.

  • Post an event on Facebook or other social network.  This information will be sent to your contacts and accessible to anyone on Facebook.

  • Ask local radio stations to make announcements about the music festival.  Choose a station that plays the type of music performed at the festival.  You might even invite a station to air live at the festival.  This will help attract more people.

  • Place an ad in the local newspaper and community magazines.  If possible, have an ad ran on a local television network station.

  • Give away free tickets at other public events to promote your festival.

  • Send letters, postcards or fliers to the city mayor, council and any other political figures.

  • Present local bands at a battle of the bands contest before the music festival.  This will give potential attendees a sample of the music at the festival.

  • Record a video of some of the music that will be heard at the festival.  Upload the video to webpages and YouTube.
