How to Remove & Replace a Ceramic Tile Floor

How to Put New Shine on a Ceramic Tile Floor

Over time a ceramic tile floor can become dull and look dirty. There are ways to put new shine on a ceramic tile floor to make it look new again. It can be challenging, but with time and patience your floor will look shiny and brand new again.

  1. Remove any old gloss left on the floor using a sander. Move the sander over the floor in one direction slowly. Look over the floor and make sure you no longer see any old gloss on the floor. The old gloss can interfere with this process, so you have to be sure it is all removed.

  2. Mix together 1 cup of phosphate cleanser into 1 gallon of hot water. Wash the tile floor with the solution. Rinse the floor when you are finished, and allow it to dry completely.

  3. Brush polyurethane on the tile floor. Brush it on in the same direction in an even layer covering everything except for the grout. When you are finished with the entire tile floor, allow it to dry for 24 hours.

  4. Lightly sand the floor with sand paper, by hand, to dull the floor to allow another coat of gloss to stick.

  5. Repeat the steps again to apply the polyurethane two more times until you have three coats of gloss on the floor. After you apply the third coat of gloss, however, do not sand the floor. Allow it to dry for a minimum of 48 hours before anyone steps foot on it.
