How to Put Rank on an ACU Cap
The ACU cap is the official cap of the Army in the U.S. military that needs to be worn while outdoors. The cap has a rank and other patches to help identify the officer. This uniform is for combat and work in the Army.
Items Needed
- Rank insignia
- ACU cap
- Needle
- Straight pins
- Matching thread
- Buy the right rank insignia at the Base Exchange or off the Internet. If buying it off the Internet go to a trustworthy site. Some sites sell insignia that are not correct and if noticed by your commanding officer, you could get in trouble.
- Using a pin fit the insignia above the brim of the cap in the center.
- Pick up a needle with some thread, put the thread through the needle and begin sewing the rank in place from the inside out. Sewing inside out allows the thread to not show on the hat. If the thread does show, then it is not correct and you are not following the correct guidelines of the Army ACU uniform. Take out the pins when done.
- Check to make sure the rank insignia is firmly in place by tugging it a little bit with your fingers. You do not want the insignia coming off in the wash or when you are working. Put the cap on your head.
Tips
- Not everyone is great at sewing. If you do not have the time or patience hire a professional or pay someone on base to do it correctly for you.
