How to Put a Riser on a Lawn Water Sprinkler
Risers are an important part of an irrigation system. The job of a water sprinkler riser is to raise and lower the sprinkler to an optimal height for watering. While changing your irrigation system can be a daunting task with a few couple steps installing a riser on a sprinkler can be done in a snap!
- Test the Waters - Before buying a riser to go on your existing water sprinkling system you will first need to ask questions at your local retailer to make sure that you are getting the proper equipment. While there are different types of risers swing joint risers are usually most recommended because they can withstand accidental impact without easily being broken.
- Turn off your water supply - Before installing your riser make sure to take the safety precaution of turning of your water supply. You do not need to turn off the main water supply just make sure that the outlet where your watering sprinkling system is connected is tightly turned off. The assembled swing riser comes complete and ready to install with three to five ells intact. The ells are important because they attach your sprinkler head at one end to the actual irrigation system itself.
- Prepare the ells - Tightly fit one of the ells around the base of the sprinkler head screwing in a clockwise motion until the sprinkler head reaches its optimal position for watering. Then connect the other end of the ell to the irrigation system making sure to keep it straight. If need be you can always cut it to shorten if you want. Get rid of any dirt or debris that may have been lodged in the installation process by flushing your system. Run the water through your system for at least a couple of minutes before returning the sprinkler head to the ground.
