How to Raise Fishing Worms
Raising your own fishing worms can be a very enjoyable experience. Many people raise fishing worms to sell, while others raise them for their own use or as a hobby. To learn how to raise your own fishing worms, follow the step-by-step guide in this article.
Step 1: Purchase 100-200 red worms. Red worms work best because they feed on the surface and dont burrow down very deep.
Step 2: Find a container that is watertight and can hold the worms. Old coolers, or trash cans work well.
Step 3: Fill your container with dirt. You want it to be about 6-inches deep, depending on the size. You can also mix in some leaves or compost.
Step 4: Add a few cups of cornmeal and vegetable shortening to the dirt. This will be the food supply for your worms.
Step 5: Add your worms to the soil, and cover the container with boards.
Step 6: Place your worms in a cool, shady area and watch your worms grow and reproduce.
Step 7: You will need to add more cornmeal in about a month, and then every two weeks. You will also want to add a couple cups of water each time you feed the worms.
