How to Reduce Swelling After Revision Rhinoplasty

How to Recover From a Rhinoplasty

If you are recovering after a rhinoplasty surgery, you should do everything possible to help your body heal in a timely manner.  To help in the healing process make sure to get and take prescriptions that were prescribed to you right away after your surgery.  Also, drink plenty of fluids during the recovery process and place ice packs on the face area to keep swelling to a minimum.

  • Get any prescriptions that your doctor gave you right away after your rhinoplasty. These prescriptions that will include antibiotics and pain killers are necessary for your recovery and should be filled as soon as you get them.  Prescriptions should be taken as prescribed and on time so that your nose can heal properly.

  • Do not skip pain medicine during your recovery.  This is especially important for the first few days after your nose surgery because your nose will ache and hurt.  Some people do not like to take prescription pain medicine, but it is important that it is taken as soon as you start to feel pain because pain will most likely get worse and prescription medicine will help keep this pain manageable.

  • Get plenty of rest after your rhinoplasty.  The best way to do this is to lay down with your head elevated under at least two pillows.  This position will be the most comfortable way to rest and will help reduce swelling in the nose and face area. Also, laying this way will help you in being able to breathe effectively as well as make your nose feel less congested.

  • Use ice packs around the face and eyes to reduce swelling.  Packs should be applied around the nose area but not directly on it.  This is important so that you do not place pressure on the area where you received your rhinopasty. Find ice packs that are pliable so that they meld comfortably around your eyes and face for the best swelling reduction.

  • Drink many fluids during your recovery to replenish fluid that was lost during surgery and to help with the healing process.  This should be done by drinking many glasses of water throughout the day to keep your body sufficiently hydrated for the entire time that you are healing.
