How to Reference Online Newspaper Articles
Students in high school as well as those attending secondary education classes will be required to cite all references used for any academic writing. If you obtained research through an online newspaper article, you will need to know the proper way to reference this material.
- Add a reference page at the end of an academic paper where you used online newspaper articles to reference material in the paper. Create a bold header that says "References" at the top of the last page of the paper.
- Start with the last name of the author of the article you are citing, followed by a comma and the first name of the article's author and then add a period at the end of the author's first and last name.
- Add the year in which the article was originally published and then add a comma. Add the month that the article was published followed by the date of the month and a period.
- Add the title of the name of the newspaper article that you are citing followed by a period. Make sure that you capitalize the first letter of the first word in the newspaper article's title.
- Write out the words "Retrieved from" followed by the URL of the website where you obtained access to the newspaper article that was referenced throughout the academic paper you are citing.
- Write down the words "Assessed on" followed by a comma and then the year month and date of when the article was accessed.
- Repeat steps 2–6 for each additional newspaper article that needs to be referenced for the paper.
