- Use a screwdriver to remove the hinges from the cabinets. Take down the cabinets and remove the hardware from them as well. Place the hardware and hinges in a safe place so you can find them later.
- Place a drop cloth under the area you will be working in. Make sure the doors and windows are open so the area is well ventilated. Make sure you wear gloves to protect your hands from the chemicals that you will be using.
- Apply a chemical stripper over the cabinets with a paintbrush. Use a paint scraper to remove all of the paint from the surface of the cabinets.
- Fill a bucket with 1 cup of white distilled vinegar. Add 1 gallon of distilled water to the bucket. Wash the cabinets with the solution and a sponge. Allow the cabinets to completely dry.
- Sand the surface of the cabinets with 220 grit sandpaper. Make sure you sand in the direction of the wood grain. Wipe away all of the sanding dust with a damp sponge and allow the surface to dry.
- Use a sponge brush to apply a layer of paint to the cabinets. Make sure you paint with the grain. Allow the paint to dry according to the directions on the label. Apply a second coat of paint and allow it to dry.
