How to Restore Old Marble Countertops
Marble countertops are added to make a room look elegant and beautiful. As the countertops become worn and dull from frequent use, the surface can become dull and boring and take away from the décor. These old countertops can be restored to look beautiful again.
How to Restore Old Marble Countertops
Materials Needed
- Bucket
- Water
- Mild liquid dish soap
- Sponge
- 1000 grit sandpaper
- Car finishing compound
- Cloth
- Wool pad
- High speed buffer
- Fill a bucket with water. Pour in five drops of mild liquid dish soap. Swish a sponge around in the bucket to mix the liquids. Dip the sponge into the cleaning solution and clean the countertops.
- Pour out the cleaning solution and rinse the bucket. Rinse the sponge as well. Fill the bucket with fresh clean water. Use the sponge and water to clean all of the soap from the countertops.
- Wet 1000 grit sandpaper with water. Sand over the surface of the countertops using light circular motions. You do not want to remove too much of the finish from the surface.
- Saturate a sponge with water and squeeze it until it is damp. Use the damp sponge to remove all traces of the sanding dust. Allow the surface to dry completely before moving to the next step.
- Remove the lid from the car-finishing compound. Scoop some of the compound out with a clean cloth. Apply the compound over the surface of the countertops. Apply a wood pad to a high-speed buffer. Polish the countertops to a shine.
