How to Refinish a Vanity Top
If you want to enhance the appearance of your outdated bathroom, but you cannot find a way to fit it in your budget you should consider refinishing the vanity top. It will give the room an entirely new look and it is something you can easily do yourself.
Instructions for Refinishing a Vanity Top
- Shut off the water to the sink.
- Use a crescent wrench to remove the water line nuts from the valves.
- Locate where the drain line is connected under the sink and use the crescent wrench to remove the nut. This should be done so the tailpipe of the drain can be removed. You will also need to remove the other end of the tailpipe.
- Use the crescent wrench to remove the faucet from the sink.
- Use a putty knife to remove any grime that was under the faucet.
- Use a household cleaner and a soft sponge to thoroughly clean the vanity top. Try to avoid scratching the surface.
- Use a belt sander to smooth out any rough areas on the vanity.
- Remove the sanding dust with a tack cloth.
- Prepare the epoxy-based refinisher according to the manufacturer's instruction on the package.
- Use a brush to apply the refinisher to the surface of the vanity top. Do not be alarmed if the vanity looks like it has streaks in it after the refinisher has been applied because this is normal.
- Allow the refinisher to dry for at least 48 hours before using.
- Replace the faucet, reattach the water lines and restore water to the sink.
